‘That’s why’: Moises Caicedo says he signed for Chelsea because of 23-year-old player

Moises Caicedo was at the centre of arguably the most interesting transfer saga of the summer transfer window.

Cast your mind back to early August and you’ll remember the Ecuadorian had been the subject of a £111m bid from Liverpool that was accepted by Brighton.

However, on the very same day, Chelsea came in with a bigger offer, and Caicedo had a decision to make.

Ultimately, the midfielder ended up joining the Blues, and speaking to Stadium Astro, Caicedo has now shared one of the decisive factors on choosing Chelsea over Liverpool.

Caicedo says that he actually spoke to Enzo Fernandez before joining Chelsea, and the Argentine was the reason he decided to come to west London.

Enzo Fernandez convinced Moises Caicedo to join Chelsea

Caicedo spoke about his conversation with the 23-year-old.

“Enzo came here before me and he helped me a lot, before joining Chelsea I spoke with him about Chelsea and he told me what it’s like at Chelsea, that’s why I came to Chelsea as well,” Caicedo said.

Not worked out yet

Chelsea thought they were making one of the signings of the summer when they spent a British-record fee on Caicedo.

However, so far, things haven’t really clicked for the Ecuadorian at Stamford Bridge, and he doesn’t look worth that £115m fee right now.

Luckily, it is still only early days for Caicedo at Chelsea, and at the age of just 22, he has lots of room to grow.

Caicedo showed during his time at Brighton just how good he can be in the Premier League, and if he can begin to replicate that sort of form, he will soon become a star for the Blues.

This signing hasn’t paid dividends yet, but with a little patience, perhaps Caicedo could still prove to be a good signing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
