‘That’s why’: Journalist now shares what people at Liverpool have been saying about signing Jude Bellingham
Journalist James Pearce has been speaking on the Athletic’s YouTube channel and has now shared what people at Liverpool have been saying about signing Jude Bellingham.
Bellingham has been linked with a move to Liverpool over the summer and reports have suggested that they are the ‘most likely’ side to sign him.
The Borussia Dortmund midfielder is seen as one of the best young players in Europe at the moment and would be a huge signing for Jurgen Klopp.
But if the 19-year-old does leave Germany next summer, he will have a host of clubs chasing his signature.
What people at Liverpool have been saying about Bellingham
The Athletic’s James Pearce has been talking about the race to sign Bellingham.
And the journalist has shared what people at Liverpool have been saying about the possibility of signing the England man.
“I think the only issue with that would be, who else can possibly live up to the financial side of making this a reality because I think the numbers involved automatically rule out a lot of clubs,” Pearce said on the Athletic’s YouTube channel.
“Even though he’ll be down to the last two years of his current deal next summer, which clearly looks like the first available opportunity really for his array of suitors to firm up that interest in him.
“But if Dortmund value him at around 150 million euros, what’s that around £130 million? That’s why I think I’d be amazed if we saw anyone else, probably only PSG in world football that could potentially come up with that kind of cash. Apart from the ones we’ve mentioned – Real Madrid, [Manchester] United, [Manchester] City, Chelsea and Liverpool.
“That’s why I think that when you speak to people at Liverpool, the caveat is will the numbers get too big? Will it reach a point where you just go, well hang on a minute.
“Despite his huge potential and despite the fact Liverpool look upon him as someone who could be at the absolute heart of that midfield for the next decade.
“It’s a long-term investment but the numbers could still get crazy. Especially when you factor in the wages.”
Pearce also notes that the race to sign the starlet is currently open and it will ‘ultimately’ come down to the numbers.
Klopp did manage to bring in a midfielder in Arthur Melo from Juventus this summer, but only on a season-long loan deal.
The Reds will seemingly be back in the market for midfield reinforcements next summer and Bellingham could become available.
But they will certainly face a battle to sign the England international, with plenty of teams keeping tabs on the youngster.
