‘That’s what I’ve heard’: Even Newcastle United can’t afford ‘astonishing’ player – journalist

Newcastle United view Moussa Diaby as too expensive heading into this summer transfer window.

Speaking on NUFC Matters, Liam Kennedy has shared what he knows about Diaby amid a number of links to Newcastle, once again.

The Tyneside club have been linked with Diaby for about a year now, but according to Kennedy, the Magpies think this deal will simply cost too much.

Of course, he says that it is impossible to rule anything out when it comes to the richest football club in the world, but he says that right now, Newcastle aren’t able to seriously consider a move for Diaby.

Too expensive

Kennedy shared what he knows about Diaby.

“I think he’s viewed as too expensive. That’s what I’ve heard on that one. We’ll wait and see with these things. An example from last summer, if you asked in June if Alexander Isak would have ended up at Newcastle I’d have said no, but things change. He was too expensive at the time, but they adjusted their view and got him. Wilson’s injury pushed their buttons and made them get him. You can never say no with these things, but I think he’s viewed as too expansive,” Kennedy said.

Can’t rule it out

Even as the richest club in the world, Newcastle need to be careful with their spending due to FFP, but as Kenendy says, you can’t rule anything out here.

Newcastle may well have Champions League income next season, which will alleviate a lot of the club’s FFP fears, and the club could well move for the ‘astonishing’ player late in the window if it is affordable.

A move looks unlikely right now, but as with the Isak deal last season, Newcastle could well have a trick up their sleeve this summer.
