Andy Carroll hailed Newcastle United debutant Matty Longstaff after he became the hero at St James’ Park. Longstaff marked his league debut with a low drilled finish to separate Newcastle and Manchester United.

Newcastle jumped out of the relegation zone after recording their second win of the season. Longstaff – who played one cup match prior to this – was the only goalscorer as Man United’s dismal away form continued.

Longstaff was joined by other Geordies on the pitch. His older brother – Sean Longstaff – was in midfield alongside him. And Carroll came off the bench in the second half.
