Roy Keane has slammed Inter Milan attacker Lautaro Martinez on ITV for what he did at the World Cup today – after claims Tottenham Hotspur want to sign him.

Spurs brought in Richarlison over the summer as Antonio Conte bolstered his attacking options.

But the Italian boss has been linked with a move for one of his former players in Martinez.

InterLive reported last week that Spurs hold an interest in signing the Argentine next summer. CMW revealed last month that Martinez will cost Tottenham a club-record fee of around £72 million.

Conte has been left slightly short in terms of quality depth across his frontline, with injuries to Heung-Min Son, Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski highlighting the need for another forward.

Martinez is certainly a player that Conte will know well after bringing the best out of him at Inter.

The 25-year-old was in action for Argentina at the World Cup today as they kicked off their campaign against Saudi Arabia. But Keane wasn’t impressed with the Inter striker after the first-half.

Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Argentina from the spot and then had a goal chalked off due to offside in the first-half.

Martinez thought he had doubled Argentina’s lead after producing a delightful chip when he was through on goal during the opening 45 minutes.

But after a VAR review, the Inter man was shown to be marginally offside. And Keane slammed Martinez for the timing of his run on ITV.

He said: “That’s poor. That’s poor play. He doesn’t need to be offside there, he’s got enough pace. He doesn’t need to go so early.”

Saudi Arabia produced an extraordinary comeback in the second-half as they grabbed two goals inside the first 10 minutes to earn a shock 2-1 victory.

Martinez struggled to make an impact in the second-half after posing a real threat in the opening 45 minutes.

The criticism from Keane seems a bit harsh as Martinez was only just offside for his disallowed effort.

He will be disappointed after today’s result, especially after Argentina had the ball in the back of the net three times in the first-half.
