'That's incredible': Darren Bent stunned by what he's heard Leeds player say after Bielsa sacking
Darren Bent has shared his thoughts on Leeds United’s controversial sacking of Marcelo Bielsa.
The talkSPORT pundit was stunned by what the likes of Kalvin Phillips said about Bielsa in wake of the news.
Leeds sacked the 66-year-old on Sunday following a poor run of form which included several heavy losses for Leeds.
On Saturday, Leeds fell to a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham at Elland Road.
It marked the fifth Premier League game in a row where the Whites have conceded three or more goals in one match.
Leeds have since brought in Jesse Marsch, who previously coached RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Salzburg.
In wake of Bielsa’s departure, several Leeds players took to social media to express the utmost gratitude towards the Argentine.
Phillips wrote: “Thank you Marcelo for everything you have done for me.
“You saw in me what I didn’t even see in myself. You helped me grow as a player but most importantly as a person.”
Bent described Phillips’ comments as “incredible” and questioned whether Leeds could’ve given Bielsa more time.
“I think if they were rock bottom and looked like they were gone, I’d go ‘okay, fair enough’,” Bent said on talkSPORT.
“But the fact they’re not even in the bottom three yet, you’d go ‘there’s still an opportunity there’.
“Even speaking to some of the players, listening to them speak, they’ve got a point.
“I think it was Jermaine (Beckford) yesterday when he talked about some of the players saying that he saw in them which they didn’t even see in themselves.
“I mean, that is incredible. What a line that is.
“The likes of Luke Ayling, even Kalvin Phillips. If you look at him before Bielsa got there, he was a good Championship player.
“Bielsa turned him into one of England’s main men at the Euros, he was absolutely superb.”
Leeds are next in action on Saturday, when they head to Leicester in the day’s early Premier League kickoff.
