‘That’s got legs’: Journalist reckons £45m player could genuinely sign for Tottenham in January

Tottenham Hotspur continue to be linked with a move for Conor Gallagher, and apparently, this is a deal that has legs.

Speaking on the It’s All Kicking Off podcast, Sami Mokbel has been discussing Gallagher’s situation at Chelsea, and he’s led to believe that the Blues are thinking about selling Gallagher in order to alleviate some of their FFP problems as he enters the final 18 months of his contract.

Tottenham have been linked, and when asked about Spurs’ interest in Gallagher, Mokbel went on the record to state that this is a deal that does have legs.

Gallagher to Tottenham has legs

Mokbel shared what he knows about the £45m man.

“That’s a deal that’s got legs. It’s incredible really, Gallagher is the de facto captain at Chelsea, he’s playing every week, and yet, he’s a player that at the right price is available in January. I think it’s madness, history tells us that under the new regime at Chelsea they look at academy players as vehicles around FFP regulations. It’s clear that Chelsea need reinforcements, and they’re now looking at Gallagher with 18 months left of his contract, they’re trying to tie him down to a new one, but they’re looking at Gallagehr and thinking if they can get towards £50m-60m while his contract is still up in the air they should be doing that,” Mokbel said.

Coup

This would be a remarkable signing if Tottenham could pull this off.

Make no mistake about it, Gallagher is one of Chelsea’s best players, and if Spurs were to bring him to north London, it would be a massive statement of intent.

As for Chelsea, we can’t help but think that they’d be making a huge mistake in selling Gallagher, but, as we’ve seen over the past 18 months, Todd Boehly will do whatever he can to free up a bit of cash and spend as much as possible to continuously change the look of this Chelsea team.

This is certainly a situation to keep an eye on this month.
