‘That wasn’t right’… Gary Neville shares the one Man Utd transfer that left him the most annoyed

There have been some frustrating player sales at Manchester United over the years.

Letting David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo go to Real Madrid left a real sour taste in the mouth, while watching Diego Forlan become a superstar after selling him was also painful.

However, speaking on The Overlap, Gary Neville has now named the one United sale that left him the most annoyed, and he’s picked Carlos Tevez’s move to Manchester City.

Even 15 years later, Neville seems annoyed by Tevez’s decision to swap Old Trafford for the Etihad, claiming that it wasn’t right for a player to make this switch directly between the two clubs.

Gary Neville annoyed by Carlos Tevez move

Neville spoke about the Argentine and his switch to City.

“The one for me from United was Tevez, the one that got me the most. I know he was with us for year and a half and it was a weird ownership thing. But for us he was a United player, if you played for United you didn’t go directly to City,” Neville said.

“He was a great lad and an unbelievable fighter, at the end he started to get disillusioned because he was being left out and stuff. But that wasn’t right that one.”

Changing of the guard

Tevez’s move to Man City wasn’t only a coup for the Citizens, it also acted as something of a changing of the guard within Manchester.

Indeed, this was the beginning of the power shift between these two clubs, and while it’s taken a while for City to truly establish themselves as the dominant club in the city, the wheels started turning at this point when Tevez made this move.

United fans have had to endure a lot of frustration over the past few years, but Tevez’s move to City is still something that rubs many supporters up the wrong way.
