Former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique is disappointed with Liverpool’s owners after reports that Chelsea have outbid the side for Romeo Lavia.

Enrique took to X to share a message for Fenway Sports Group, the owners of Liverpool.

Not one to hide his emotions, Enrique said: “Thanks FSG for this, well done.”

Enrique is probably echoing the feelings of a lot of Liverpool fans right now who will no doubt be very frustrated.

Whilst Chelsea have by no means secured a deal for Romeo Lavia, they are looking to capitalise on Liverpool’s lethargic approach to concluding a deal.

Liverpool have had a series of bids rejected for their key target with their latest rejected at £45m.

Jose Enrique was replying to Fabrizio Romano’s update that Chelsea had now submitted a formal bid of £48m for the Southampton midfielder.

And if Liverpool were digging their heels over the transfer fee, things may have just got a lot harder with Chelsea in the race.

It’s not just Enrique that is keen to see Lavia at Liverpool, the whole club and fanbase seem pretty unanimous.

Jose Enrique is frustrated at Liverpool’s owners for their approach to a Lavia deal

Chelsea of course showed interest in Romeo Lavia last summer.

The side were quite remarkably said to have launched a bid late in the window for the Belgian.

Remarkable because he had only left Manchester City for Southampton a month or so prior.

And it would now seem that Chelsea have retained that interest.

From a Southampton point of view the added competition will be excellent news for them to achieve their asking price.

Jose Enrique’s frustration must point to the idea that Liverpool could have easily had a deal for Lavia already wrapped up.

The side have already undergone a significant midfield revamp this summer and a holding midfielder looks to be the last piece of the puzzle.

Where Romeo Lavia ends up now looks to be anyone’s guess.
