Former Rangers captain Terry Butcher has written off his old club’s chances of snatching the Scottish Premiership away from bitter rivals already.
According to the Daily Record, the Englishman said: “The game against Celtic when Celtic won 1-0, it wasn’t so much a reality check but Rangers didn’t do very well.
“They are getting better; but are they reaching the champions? I don’t think so, I think they are still some way off.”
For all the good work Steven Gerrard has done at Ibrox, Butcher still feels Rangers have more to do. Here’s why he’s got it wrong…

Rangers are only two points behind Celtic, after Brendan Rodgers’ title bid was undermined by a summer of indecision and speculation surrounding some of his leading lights.
Where there is uncertainty at Parkhead, Gerrard has everybody at Ibrox singing from the same hymn sheet. The Liverpool icon is able to inspire high-tempo performances from his new-look squad, while Rodgers faces uncertainty around his future and scrutiny over Celtic’s performances.
The key issue for Gerrard is consistency. But if he can get Rangers playing at their best every week, they will give anyone in Scotland a run for their money in the title race.
