‘Terrible’: Sky Sports pundit stunned by one Newcastle player today

Newcastle United were impressive on Saturday, running out 5-1 winners over Brentford.

However, there was a moment from one Magpies player that Sky Sports pundit Clinton Morrison criticised.

In the 70th minute, Callum Wilson had a great chance to make it four for Eddie Howe’s side.

The ball fell to Joelinton at the back post, who pulled it back to Bruno Guimaraes with a stunning backheel.

He moved the ball onto Wilson, but he proceeded to mis-hit his shot.

Nonetheless, it was almost deflected into the Brentford goal, but the visitors eventually cleared it.

Morrison, covering the match on Sky Sports Soccer Saturday, was surprised by the Newcastle forward’s error.

“It’s a terrible finish from Callum Wilson, unusual to be fair,” he said (8/10, 16:27).

“Joelinton does ever so well, clever back-heel to Bruno Guimaraes.

“He could shoot, he plays it to Wilson, who is about eight yards out.

“It was going wide, but a Brentford defender blocked it, but he had the whole goal.”

Newcastle rampant, Brentford sloppy

In the grand scheme of things, it wasn’t really anything to worry about anyway.

Newcastle didn’t need long to break the deadlock and dominated for most of the match.

Bruno Guimaraes opened the scoring for Howe’s side in the 21st minute.

Kieran Trippier delivered a superb cross to the back post.

And the Brazilian broke away from his marker to head home.

Just seven minutes later, Jacob Murphy made the most of a David Raya error to double the Magpies’ lead.

The Bees keeper passed the ball to Wilson, who squared to Murphy for a simple goal.

Though Newcastle dominated the first half, the visitors were quick out of the starting blocks after the interval.

They eventually halved the deficit through Ivan Toney, who scored a penalty awarded due to Dan Burn’s handball.

However, Newcastle soon restored their two-goal advantage, again through Guimaraes.

The January signing drove towards the edge of the box before drilling a great effort inside the near post.

Eight minutes from time, Miguel Almiron pounced on Ethan Pinnock’s poor backpass to round Raya and tap into the empty net.

Then, in the 88th minute, Pinnock scored an own goal to make it 5-1 to the Tyneside outfit.

Joelinton crossed for Chris Wood, and the Brentford man, trying to block the delivery, put it through his own net.
