Tiago Ilori
Another man who was recalled from their loan spell was Portuguese defender Tiago Ilori. I suppose it was inevitable that he would not make the grade if could not force his way into an Aston Villa side currently sat rock bottom of the Premier League. Ilori has seemingly built his reputation from beating one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s sprint record for Portugal and has no place in the squad. He has been deemed surplus to requirements under Klopp and now Deportivo seem like his next destination.
Joao Carlos Teixeira
I am a big fan of Portuguese attacking midfielder, Joao Carlos Teixeira. The midfielder is a tidy player who should have been given more of a chance during his time at the club. I believe that if he was a few years younger, he would be retained. However, at 23 years of age, he needs first-team football. With the abundance of number 10’s already at the club, with a move for Gotze rumoured, Teixeira needs to move on for the good of his career. I hope he finds the right club who are willing to give him the chance to impress.
Jose Enrique
What is Jose Enrique still doing at the club? What makes for worse reading is that the Spaniard is still taking home £65,000 per week despite his lack of appearances. He rejected a move away last summer, obviously keen to make the most of his bumper contract on Merseyside, but the club will not be offering him a new deal and should leave in the summer when his contract deal ends. Thank god.
Martin Skrtel
Slovakian defender, Martin Skrtel, has somehow managed to stay at the club during the last two clear-outs. His defending at set-pieces is horrendous and usually involves a small wrestling match between him and the attacker. His marking is woeful and has lost his place in the side thanks to the form of Mamadou Sakho and Dejan Lovren. His display against Southampton pretty much summed up his current ability and the former Zenit defender should be allowed to move in the summer with Joel Matip arriving on a free.
