Con Ouzounidis has posted his delight on Twitter after the teenage defender agreed a new contract with Everton, just weeks before his previous contract was set to expire.

The 19-year-old has put pen to paper on a one-year deal, keeping him at Everton until the summer of 2020. The Australian youngster was set to leave Goodison Park on June 30, but will now remain for another 12 months.

Naturally a centre-back, Ouzounidis has played six times for Everton’s Under-23 side this season under David Unsworth and is expected to feature more for the second string next time around.

Everton’s reserves completed the double last season and Ouzounidis will be desperate to impress in one of the country’s best Under-23 sides next season. He posted his delight on Twitter.

TBR’s view

Ouzounidis is certainly a talent, but he has plenty of competition ahead of him in the pecking order if he has any aspirations of breaking into Marco Silva’s side.

The likes of Yerry Mina, Michael Keane, Mason Holgate and more sit ahead of the Aussie teen. But this new contract will give the defender hope of making a name for himself at Everton.

He may be better served to go on loan and prove himself at either Championship or League One level, and show any interested parties what he is all about ahead of the summer of 2020.
