Leeds United and Sheffield United are renowned for their Yorkshire rivalry, especially after last season with the two sides battling tooth and nail for promotion to the Premier League – but that does not seem to have affected Connor Leak-Blunt.
The 17-year-old signed a professional contract at Elland Road in the summer after rising through the academy at Thorp Arch. The Whites offered the youngster a three-year deal, and he duly put pen to paper to sign pro terms.
Though he was hardly a regular member of the Under-23 side, Leak-Blunt was certainly close to making a breakthrough in the reserve team and had played for the Under-18 team. But that has all changed.
That is because Leak-Blunt has made the surprise move to join Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United, and has signed a three-year deal with the Blades. The young midfielder confirmed as much on Twitter.
It was always going to be tough for Leak-Blunt to break into the senior side at Elland Road. The rise of Jamie Shackleton, Alfie McCalmont and Robbie Gotts has made it near impossible for any more academy players to follow suit.
Now, Leak-Blunt will be chancing his arm at trying to forge a career in the Premier League, by furthering his development under the stewardship of new manager Chris Wilder.
