Talented teenager Theo Hudson has underlined his delight on Twitter after he agreed professional terms with Leeds United, but he will have to instantly show why he deserves the new terms.
Hudson, 18, is highly-rated by Leeds coaches and his new deal is likely to see him promoted from the Under-18 side to the all-conquering Under-23’s – who recently gained promotion after a penalty-shootout win over Birmingham.
The box-to-box midfielder scored five goals from deep in 23 outings for the Under-18 side this season, as they narrowly missed out on the Professional Development League North title by goal difference.
The news of Hudson’s contract emerged on Monday afternoon, and the one-time England Under-16 international reacted by posting his joy at remaining with the Whites – at least until the summer of 2020.
TBR’s view
The Under-23’s have produced a number of first-team stars, including Jamie Shackleton, Jack Clarke, Leif Davis, Pascal Struijk and Ryan Edmondson. All are expected to be in the senior side next season.
It means that any player joining the second string has to show enormous potential – enough to mirror the likes of Shackleton and Clarke if they are to have a chance of impressing in Carlos Corberan’s side.
Leeds’ decision to place their faith in Hudson will give him confidence that they think he is good enough. But a tough season with the Under-23’s awaits.
