Dani van den Heuvel has posted on Instagram to confirm he has joined Leeds United on a free transfer after leaving Dutch giants Ajax – where he will link up with the Whites’ Under-23 side for the 2020-21 campaign.

A Netherlands Under-17 international, van den Heuvel impressed in the set-up at the illustrious Ajax – who are renowned for producing some excellent talent, the latest being the likes of Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt.

Van den Heuvel has played 10 times for Ajax’s Under-17 side, and the goalkeeper has conceded 20 times at that level. He has also clocked up four caps for Netherlands Under-17 side during his early career.

That has caught the admiring glances of Leeds. Dutch outlet Ajax Showtime claimed earlier this month that the goalkeeper had turned down a new contract from Ajax in order to move to Elland Road this summer.

The highly-rated goalkeeper has signed a three-year deal at Elland Road, and will initially link up with the club’s reserve side with a view to looking to break into the first team.

The Whites currently boast Illan Meslier and Kiko Casilla as the first two options, and there are plenty of options at Under-23 level. But given the level of excitement around van den Heuvel, he should feature regularly.

He posted on Instagram, labelling Leeds a massive club and even finishing the post with “side before self, every time” – a historic quote from Leeds legend Billy Bremner, that is sure to impress supporters.
