‘Technically super-gifted’: Arsenal-linked full-back has been compared to Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Reported Arsenal target Tyrick Mitchell has come in for huge praise in recent months, being compared to Aaron Wan-Bissaka and described as having the “eye of the tiger”.

According to the Evening Standard, the Gunners are currently scouting a number of left-backs to try find competition for Kieran Tierney, and Crystal palace’s Mitchell is said to be one of those.

The report also claims that Arsenal are joined by other top-flight clubs in England to look at the 21-year-old.

Mitchell, who reportedly earns £29,000-a-week at Selhurst Park, has come through the ranks at the club’s academy and broken into the first team.

The left-back, who seized his first-team chance after an injury to Patrick van Aanholt, has made 11 senior appearances in all competitions this season, with 10 in the Premier League.

Manager Roy Hodgson has sought to dampen expectations over Mitchell, but did make a comparison with fellow full-back Wan-Bissaka, who shone at Palace before joining Manchester United.

“Aaron looked very much like Tyrick when he came in and took the game by storm, and he made the position his own very quickly,” he told Sky Sports in September.

Meanwhile Gabriel Flores, his former youth coach at Brentford, told The Athletic in October: “He was technically super-gifted.

“When he is defending, we all see the film Rocky and think of Eye Of The Tiger, and someone needs to have that. This kid has it.”

Tierney has been superb for Arsenal but cover for him is essential.

Ryan Bertrand would be a decent, ready-made acquisition with plenty of Premier League experience, that’s true.

However, a player like Mitchell, with so much talent and potential who looks as though he’ll become a world-class player, should also be snapped up right away.
