TBR’s View: Leeds United should use connections and move for out-of-favour Callum Robinson

Leeds United’s transfer hunt this month will mostly centre around a new striker. Eddie Nketiah’s Arsenal recall has left the Championship promotion chasers short in attack and plenty of names have been linked with a move to Elland Road.

One such player has been Sheffield United’s Billy Sharp. The former Leeds striker is struggling for regular minutes in the Premier League and, as reported by the YEP, is one of the Elland Road club’s striking targets.

But should Leeds be eyeing up a different Sheffield United forward?

Callum Robinson only joined the Blades in the summer. The Republic of Ireland international joined from Preston North End in a deal reported by Lancashire Live to be worth a then club-record £8 million.

He went straight into Chris Wilder’s starting XI but has struggled in recent weeks for league football.

The form of Lys Mousset, David McGoldrick and Oli McBurnie has seen Robinson start just once since November and playing just 98 minutes of football from the club’s last 12 league fixtures.

He would fit the bill perfectly for what Leeds United are looking for. Robinson has a good scoring record in the Championship and can also play on the left-wing, an area where Leeds are also looking to recruit.

According to the football database Transfermarkt, Robinson is also represented by Key Sports Management. Leeds have good relations with the company through director of football Victor Orta. Whites midfield general Adam Forshaw is a client, as are former Leeds players Bailey Peacock-Farrell, Izzy Brown and Matty Pennington.

Harvey Barnes, who so nearly joined Leeds on loan in the summer of 2018, is also represented by KSM whilst Leeds youngster Jack Jenkins is also a client.

Robinson will undoubtedly be disappointed at his recent lack of action and the idea of getting involved in a Championship promotion battle will undoubtedly appeal to him.

If Leeds are, as the YEP state, activating agents to find themselves proven Championship goalscorers who are currently struggling for first-team football than Robinson’s name will surely come up.

He would be a tremendous signing and could easily be the missing piece of the puzzle in Leeds United’s promotion push.
