Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans put in another masterclass display last night as the Foxes eased to a 1-0 win at Arsenal.

The Belgian midfielder has quickly developed into one of the finest central midfield players in the Premier League. He oozes class, is quality on the ball and is a real driving force in Brendan Rodgers’ team.

A new contract is said to be in the offing for Tielemans but you can’t help but think that he would be well suited to a team challenging right at the top of the Premier League table.

Of course, Leicester may well do that this year. However, having previously scouted and being interested in Tielemans a few transfer windows back, surely the Belgian would complete the puzzle for Tottenham and Jose Mourinho?

It’s certainly a fascinating thought for Spurs fans, who have already been enjoying the fine midfield performances of new signing Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg this term.

Next level

Tottenham’s squad at the moment is as good as it’s been for a number of years. They have talent in all areas of the field, including multiple players in different positions.

But teams can always make improvements and Tielemans would give Tottenham that bit of extra quality from the middle. Hojbjerg can do the dirty work he does so well, which in turn would give the Belgian ample space to operate in and get free.

His ball over the top for Cengiz Under last night was sensational, while he rarely gave the ball away for Leicester (87% passing accuracy, per Whoscored)

Of course, the signing of Tielemans would be a hard one to pull off. But Tottenham are building under Mourinho and Daniel Levy has proven he will back his man. While a new contract is negotiated, is there an opening there for someone to get in the ear of Tieleman’s agent?

Tottenham have fine midfield players in Harry Winks, Lo Celso, and Hojbjerg. But the thought of adding a player like Tielemans, who at 23 is only going to get better, is certainly something to be excited about if you were a Spurs fan.
