TBR View: Why missing out on Inzaghi hands Tottenham a boost in Rodgers pursuit

Reports from Italy claimed earlier this week that Lazio manager Simone Inzaghi had emerged as a possible candidate to replace Jose Mourinho at Tottenham Hotspur this summer – but missingout on the Italian might just help them get Brendan Rodgers.

Inzaghi, 45, has made an excellent start to managerial life with Lazio, where he is about to clock up six years in the job. He has secured three trophies with the Serie A side, clocking up 247 games in charge – and even the last 16 of the Champions League.

Italian newspaper Corriere Dello Sport claim that Tottenham are interested in Inzaghi, with Lazio president Claudio Lotiti struggling to meet Inzaghi’s demands – with his contract set to expire in the summer. However, they are not alone in pursuit.

The report states that Inzaghi will only extend his contract if he is offered a three-year deal with wages that are between £125,000 a week and £180,000 a week. Lazio are struggling to match that, and Spurs are ready to take advantage.

But as stated, Spurs do have competition – strangely, in the form of Brendan Rodgers. While the ex-Celtic and Liverpool boss continues to impress at The King Power, interest in his services continue to arise – most notably from Tottenham.

It means that Leicester are drawing up possible replacements and Inzaghi is on that shortlist. They are the two clubs listed as interested in Inzaghi ahead of the window, but missing out on Inzaghi would surely help Spurs in the chase for Rodgers.

Given that Leicester are also open to adding Inzaghi to the managerial role at the club, if Spurs miss out to the Champions League-chasing club in the race for the highly-rated Italian boss – then of course, it benefits their pursuit of Rodgers.
