TBR View: Why forward linked with Everton could have similar impact to James Rodriguez

Everton are being linked with Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, who is someone that would be a statement signing by the Merseyside club.

With his exit at the end of the season already announced, there is widespread speculation about who the 32-year-old will join after he leaves the Etihad Stadium.

The South American forward has already written himself into Premier League history books, scoring 182 goals in 273 English top-flight matches. However, the Argentine striker proved with his goal at the weekend against Crystal Palace that he’s by no means finished as a player.

He can’t find regular starts for a Man City team on the brink of a league title, as well as one game away from a Champions League final, but he could surely still be a massive success for plenty of other clubs in England.

According to the Daily Star earlier in May, Everton have entered the race to try sign Aguero on a free transfer.

The report mentioned Chelsea, Tottenham, Leeds United, Barcelona and Inter MIlan as other potential suitors.

If Everton could pull off a remarkable swoop for Aguero by bringing him to Goodison Park, surely he could have a similar impact at Goodison Park to that of current Toffees star James Rodriguez.

Rodriguez, 29, completed a move to Merseyside last summer, and he joined them as a high-profile name that had performed on the elite stage.

The attacking midfielder has more than lived up to his name, scoring six goals and setting up nine assists in just 25 appearances.

On top of that, it feels like he’s helped get the best out of his Everton teammates, and they love playing with someone of his talent.

Aguero, who has similarly been on the top level for years and years, would be an X-factor signing for Everton.

The advice he could give centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin to develop his game would be invaluable, plus he’s the type of addition that would send a huge message throughout the entire dressing room about the ambition under manager Carlo Ancelotti.
