Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in luring Celtic defender Kris Ajer to north London this summer after the player’s agent stated he wants to leave – and Chelsea could hand Spurs a massive helping hand in pursuit of the Norwegian.
Ajer, 21, has been in stunning form for Celtic once again this season – starting 48 of Celtic’s 53 league and cup fixtures this season. But the defender’s agent dropped a bombshell earlier this month, stating he would quit Celtic this summer.
“He will not extend his contract with Celtic and will leave this summer,” Ajer’s agent Tore Pedersen told the Sun. “There are several clubs who are interested, but I can’t go into their names. There are many who have followed him for a long period.”
Not long after Pedersen’s comments, Norwegian outlet Sporten claimed that Tottenham wanted to sign the former FK Start ace – and that Celtic value Ajer at around £26.7million. He has a contract with the Hoops until the summer of 2022.
Italian outlet CalcioMercato have reported that AC Milan also want Ajer this summer, looking to rival Tottenham for the Celtic star. But Chelsea could help wipe out Milan as a competitor – therefore helping Tottenham in their pursuit of Ajer.
That is because the Sun has claimed this week that Milan are also keen on Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen. With the Italian side unlikely to sign both Ajer and Christensen, they will be desperate to bring on centre-back to Serie A.
Christensen, 23, has clocked up 20 appearances under Frank Lampard this season but the Chelsea gaffer has preferred the likes of Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Fikayo Tomori at the back. He is likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
If Chelsea are happy to offload Christensen to Milan, which they should be, the Blues could hand their London rivals a big transfer boost – given that Milan’s interest in Ajer would die if they buy the Chelsea star.
