Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering making a move for Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette. Marca have claimed that the Spanish club are preparing an offer for the Frenchman if they fail to sign Edinson Cavani from PSG. The London club do not need to worry about life after Lacazette and here is why.

He has been a good signing for the Gunners, however, the club can afford to lose him. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the club’s main goalscorer and although Arteta has used Lacazette as his main striker, the 28-year-old has just five league goals this season.

His record since moving to the club is relatively impressive, but he has never quite hit the heights many were hoping. The former Lyon man has scored 42 goals in 107 games for the club, with 32 of those coming in the Premier League.

However, times are changing at the Emirates. A new manager in Arteta has come in and the club arguably needs a fresh start. Arsenal have several exciting young players making a claim for a senior spot, and arguably the best of those is upfront in Gabriel Martinelli.

The 18-year-old has scored three goals in five Europa League games and also has four goals in two Carabao Cup matches. The departure of Lacazette could cause the breakthrough of a generational talent. It would certainly be a gamble, but it could be of benefit to Arsenal in the long run.

A senior forward in Aubameyang would still be present to nurture his talent and the young Brazilian could go on to lead the line at the club for many years to come.
