TBR View: What Bielsa has said about Ben White suggests he's the perfect Arsenal signing
Arsenal are reportedly closing in on bringing Ben White to the Emirates Stadium.
According to Sky Sports, the Gunners are in advanced talks with Brighton over the 23-year-old.
Arsenal apparently saw a £40m bid rejected last week, but could now possibly land White for £50m.
Though Brighton haven’t made their valuation public, club owner Tony Bloom reportedly won’t stand in his way.
That is, if Arsenal meet their price.
Ben White: His rise to prominence
White is one of English football’s rising stars, having burst onto the scene at Leeds.
He joined Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites on loan in the summer of 2019, and proved a revelation at Elland Road.
Prior to his Leeds switch, White hadn’t made an appearance in English football’s top two divisions.
However, he was sensational for the Whites, featuring in every one of their Championship games en route to the title.
Unsurprisingly, Leeds wanted to buy him following their promotion to the Premier League.
However, they were ultimately unsuccessful as White penned a new deal at Brighton.
The Englishman has since become a regular for the Seagulls, making 36 Premier League appearances last term.
“We respect him and love him”
Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa is one of the best and most highly rated coaches in world football.
Therefore, when he sings a player’s praises, you know the footballer in question is of the highest calibre.
And what Bielsa has said about White suggests he’s the perfect Arsenal signing.
“All of us here admire him as a player,” he said back in January, as quoted by football.london.
“We respect him and love him as a human being.
“He was an excellent professional as well as a teammate.
“I hope his career allows him to grow because he deserves it.”
The Argentine also named White’s resilience as one of his most impressive assets last summer.
“He has a lot of steps to give and the most important one is how he reacts when he cannot play well,” football.london quotes Bielsa as saying.
“So for example, the ‘keepers can be important and have a good memory because if they have a mistake at the beginning of the game and they are playing the game thinking about the mistake they had, it makes them play worse.
“If you move this idea to a centre-back, it’s very important to see how he reacts when he has a mistake.
“In a player, it is very important for regularity then it is important to keep this regularity when you are suffering from mistakes that keep you weak.”

Arsenal endured their fair share of struggles last season and remain a team in transition.
Therefore, a player who has superb mental resilience and won’t implode if things aren’t going well is key.
And Mikel Arteta is a manager who demands the highest professionalism from his players.
This means White, as an excellent professional, is just what the Spaniard needs.
