TBR view: Tottenham should target Ajax star to replace Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen seems destined to leave Tottenham this month. Danish media outlet Ekstra Bladet has reported that a deal has been agreed with Inter Milan. If the Dane is to move, Tottenham need to look at replacing him – here is why they should consider Ajax’s Donny van de Beek.

The 22-year-old was one of the stars of the Dutch club’s run to the Champions League semi-final last season and has continued his impressive form from midfield this season. He has scored six goals and provided four assists in 16 Eredivisie appearances so far this season, and could be the perfect replacement for Eriksen.

Both players play in the central attacking role in midfield and look to find spaces in-between the opposition’s midfield and defence. Sky Sports have reported that van de Beek is expected to leave Ajax this summer and would consider a move to the Premier League.

If Tottenham were to make a move for the Netherlands international, they would have to wait until the end of the season. The midfielder does not want to leave Ajax halfway through the campaign but will re-evaluate in the summer.

His link-up play with players around him and the ability to pop up in the right places at the right time makes him an extremely difficult player to play against. He would offer something slightly different to Eriksen, but could perhaps bring more to the Tottenham attack.
