Manchester United have been linked with a move for wantaway Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal. The Sun has reported that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on the Chilean – but should Tottenham rival them in their pursuit of the 32-year-old?

Tottenham are looking thin on the ground in midfield after Moussa Sissoko was ruled out for three months with a knee injury. The North London club confirmed on Tuesday that the French international underwent surgery on the medial collateral ligament in his right knee which will rule him out until April.

Spurs’ strength in the base of the midfield has already been questioned and without Sissoko, it is even weaker. Jose Mourinho will want to make some additions in January and he should consider signing Vidal.

He has made just four league starts for Barcelona this season, featuring 11 times off the bench. The Chilean has scored six goals in that time and is proving he is not over the hill yet.

Vidal is reportedly not happy with his lack of opportunities at the Catalan club and could seek a move away this month. There are just 18 months remaining on his current deal and Barcelona may look to cash in considering his age.

This is where Tottenham come in. Vidal would instantly add some much-needed steel to their midfield and would improve their chances of a top-four finish this season. Due to his age and contract situation, he is unlikely to cost a large fee and making a move could be of huge benefit to Jose Mourinho’s team.
