Tottenham have made a solid start to their 2020/21 campaign but it’s fair to say that Jose Mourinho will want to further strengthen his squad in January.
Spurs wanted a centre-back during the summer window but despite links to Antonio Rudiger and Milan Skriniar, they didn’t manage to get a defender over the line.
With that in mind, the club might look to try and sign one in January, with Eric Dier, Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez likely to be stuck with for the first half of the season.

Mourinho might choose to sign a player he was previously linked with during the next window, with reports starting to speculate about the future of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba.
When the Tottenham boss was in charge of Manchester United in 2016, Alaba was thought to be on his radar (The Mirror).
A move never materialised but surely Tottenham have got to be interested with Alaba able to sign on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The 28-year-old is in the final year of his contract and after 389 games he could walk away from the Champions League holders.
Quality
One aspect of signing the £170,000-a-week star that would surely delight Mourinho is Alaba’s versatility. This season he has found himself playing as a centre-back but he has also proved himself a capable left-back as well.
Alaba is a proven winner of trophies and with Juventus and PSG reportedly interested, it’s clear some of football’s biggest clubs fancy him to still do a job.

The Bayern man has 73 caps for his country and having fancied signing him before, Mourinho would be wise to try and capture him once again.
Alaba is proven, intelligent and as a determined individual, he’d compliment the current Tottenham crop nicely.
With his contract up in the summer, Alaba will surely be available at an affordable price in January and he could prove a smart capture for Tottenham.
