TBR View: Tottenham should rival Arsenal for £7m-rated star

Tottenham find themselves in a position where they need a goalkeeper. As a result, they have to be prepared to look at Arsenal target Andre Onana.

Spurs have Hugo Lloris as a long-standing number one custodian. With Paulo Gazzaniga leaving though, Joe Hart and Alfie Whiteman provide ordinary backup.

The France number one has been in North London since 2012 when he signed from Lyon. He has made 373 appearances for the club, keeping 126 clean sheets.

Lloris has won the World Cup during his time at Tottenham and he’s proved a pretty loyal servant.

At 34 though the time will come when Tottenham have to look towards another option. Hart is in thirties too, whilst Whiteman doesn’t look capable of being a long-term number one.

Spurs could benefit from having a little look at what Arsenal are doing across North London when it comes to their goalkeeper search.

The Gunners are firmly in the mix for Ajax stopper Andre Onana and he looks to be available at a bargain price.

Goal claim that the Cameroon international could be available for just £7 million. After his appeal against a ban went well, he could now be back in action in November.

Onana would be able to start training with his new team in September and Tottenham have to join the race.

Onana could be a steal for Tottenham

At 25, the Ajax stopper has plenty of time on his side where he could improve.

With Lloris having a year left on his contract, it’d perhaps be ideal to let Onana learn from the stopper.

With the 18-cap star unable to play until November, Spurs can call upon Lloris to keep guard until then.

If he does well, great, if not they will have a brilliant player waiting in the weeks to grasp the gloves with both hands.

Onana has played 204 times for Ajax. He boasts strong distribution, commands his area well and is unbelievably quick across his line.

At £7 million he’d represent one of the signings of the summer and Tottenham simply have to rival Arsenal.
