TBR View: Tottenham-linked defender Milan Skriniar would be a masterclass signing

Tottenham have had an excellent summer transfer window so far with a host of new players joining the squad, which is why they should be confident of competing for silverware this year and finishing in the top four.

Despite signing a string of talented players, it’s the heroes welcome for ex-star Gareth Bale that has stolen the headlines following his season-long loan arrival from Real Madrid.

The welsh attacker has joined alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty, Joe Hart and Sergio Reguilon.

Bale is now back in North London playing for Spurs after achieving so much in Spain and he’ll be looking to emulate his previous success in the Premier League.

It’s going to be great to see how him and other new faces slot into the starting XI, but reports suggest the club may not be done spending.

Sky Italy journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reports on his official website that Spurs have opened talks with Italian giants Inter Milan for their defender Milan Skriniar.

It is claimed that Jose Mourinho’s team are in discussions for the 25-year-old and they are hoping Inter reduce their current £55million making price.

If Spurs can get this deal over the line, it would arguably the pick of the bunch when it comes to signings this summer and even eclipse the nostalgic return of Bale.

Mourinho’s best teams in recent years have all fundamentally been strong at the back and the club have addressed the full-back areas with new signings this summer, but they could do with another top quality centre-back option.

Skriniar, who has seen his reputation fly in the past couple of years for his consistent Serie A performances, is a powerhouse centre-back that reads the game well and is very mature for a 25-year-old.

The Slovakia international is a ball player that is so comfortable in playing out from the back and never seems flustered, so it would be great to see him in the Premier League.

Davinson Sanchez, Eric Dier, Japhet Tanganga and Toby Alderweireld are the four main options now trying to start in the Spurs side, albeit the latter is still a great option despite being past his peak.

Skriniar is a ready-made defender to walk straight into the XI to improve the side instantly and he’s definitely the top of player worth a big investment.
