TBR View: Spurs have a good chance of beating Liverpool to 'phenomenal' club captain
Spurs and Liverpool could potentially be locking horns over one player this summer.
Tottenham are reportedly close to landing Paulo Fonseca as manager, who rates Lorenzo Pellegrini highly.
Pellegrini has a contract with the Giallorossi until next year but he’s yet to agree an extension.
Indeed, Roma are yet to remove a release clause of around £25m in the 24-year-old’s contract, adds The Mirror.
Back to Spurs, Italian outlet La Repubblica believes that Fonseca could look to raid his old club.
They say it’s “inevitable” that Fonseca could turn his attention to Serie A, in particular the Giallorossi.
He apparently developed a “real passion” for working with three Roma players in particular.
The players in question are Pellegrini, Gonzalo Villar and Gianluca Mancini.
Liverpool would be a big draw for any player, no question about it.
However, Spurs look set to make two appointments with a Serie A connection.
As well as Fonseca, Tottenham are apparently closing in on Fabio Paratici, the former Juventus director.
If both Fonseca and Paratici join Spurs, they would surely have the edge over Liverpool in terms of signing Pellegrini.
The Italian has never played outside of Serie A, but with a manager he knows well, this could help him acclimatise to the Premier League.
Spurs could land “outstanding” midfielder
Pellegrini is a top player who counts none other than Roma legend Francesco Totti as a big fan.
Sadly, we won’t get to see Pellegrini play for Italy at Euro 2020 due to a muscular injury.
He withdrew from the Azzurri squad on Thursday, with Fiorentina’s Gaetano Castrovilli taking his place.
Nonetheless, there’s no doubting his quality, and if he comes to the Premier League, it’ll be exciting for fans.
