TBR View: Signing Boulaye Dia should be a no-brainer for West Ham

West Ham’s search for a new striker looks set to rumble on and one name that won’t go away is Boulaye Dia.

The Sun claim the Hammers have made contact with Reims over the uncompromising striker who is valued at £15 million.

West Ham are in the market for a replacement for Sebastien Haller who was allowed to join Ajax earlier this month.

His £20 million departure did come as a shock and the challenge for the Hammer is to find a replacement.

With Michail Antonio providing the pace and an element of being a fox in the box, David Moyes will want a striker with different qualities.

Haller was decent in the air and his physicality allowed him to hold up plenty of long balls.

With that in mind, Dia could be tailor-made for a switch to the London Stadium.

At 24 the talisman has plenty of time left to develop and he’d retain an element of sell-on value to West Ham.

This season, Dia has bagged 12 goals for Reims, despite the club’s results not exactly firing on all cylinders.

Perhaps crucially he has been playing – and scoring – regularly and that could be telling as far as West Ham are concerned.

Moyes won’t have a huge bounty of cash and whoever he does sign needs to come in and make a mark.

Dia having started 17 of 20 Ligue 1 games would be more than capable of making a seamless transition.

Risk

Of course, there is an element of risk given that Dia has never played in the Premier League before.

The positives far away the negatives though and the Senegalese player could thrive in the capital.

West Ham have enjoyed some success in the recent transfer windows with unknown quantities.

Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal are two in particular who have taken to life in England with aplomb.

At £15 million, the signing of Dia is one not to be missed out on for the Hammers this month.
