Tottenham Hotspur’s negotiations for Aaron Ramsey are described to be ‘well advanced’ at this stage by AS Sport.

Advanced talks

Tottenham are said to be chasing the midfielder, alongside Wolves, with a return to the Premier League on the cards.

Juventus want to sell Ramsey and clear his huge wages off their books, before bringing Miralem Pjanic back – according to the latest update.

Tottenham director of football Fabio Paratici does know Ramsey well, as he signed the Welsh international for Juve.

Bizarre transfer

But the latest links appear rather strange, with Spurs surely not in the market to bring him in.

While Paratici does specialise in dealing with free transfers, Ramsey is now at the twilight stage of his career and would be an expensive addition, in terms of salary.

Tottenham’s dealings so far this summer have revolved around young players.

And while Ramsey does posses a great deal of quality, his past links to Arsenal may also put some off.

The claims from Spain, therefore, appear doubtful at this stage – and if Tottenham were to bring in Ramsey it would be one of the most surprising transfers of the summer.

Not only would adding Ramsey’s salary to Tottenham’s books make transfer dealings more difficult, but he also isn’t a player who is necessarily needed.

Ramsey’s biggest success has come playing in an attacking midfield slot, but Spurs have so many options in that position already.

Bryan Gil has arrived, while Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso are already at the club.

Alli, in particular, would have reason to be hugely frustrated if Ramsey was to sign.

The Tottenham midfielder has trained hard over pre-season and is expected to be given a big role under Nuno.

But at the moment Alli seems to have no reason to worry, as if the latest reports come true and Spurs sign Ramsey then it will be one of the biggest shocks of the summer.
