Many footballing fans would have been shocked on Thursday to hear that Crystal Palace are reportedly pursuing a move to sign Dalian Yifang winger Yannick Carrasco on loan this month – and Newcastle should be looking to follow suit.
Sky Sports have claimed that Palace are pursuing a deal for 26-year-old Carrasco, who has been much better in China during his second season – some of which was under the stewardship of ex-Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez.
Teaming up alongside ex-Napoli star Marek Hamsik and former Toon loanee Salomon Rondon, Carrasco finally showed the kind of form that sa whim become a superstar winger at Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone.
He scored 17 goals in 25 appearances for Yifang last season, as well as laying on eight assists in the Chinese Super League. Having a hand in a goal every game in an ever-improving league has seen Carracaso return to his best form.
Now, it is believed Carrasco wants a move to the Premier League and Crystal Palace are in talks to secure a deal. The player wants to leave Benitez’s side, and is currently training in his home country of Belgium instead of being with Yifang.
Palace need a winger but with Newcastle’s growing injury list and Carrasco showing quality in numerous positions in China, Newcastle have got to raid Benitez’s side for arguably their best player.
Indeed, Steve Bruce has performed miracles at St. James’ Park this season. Injuries continue to mount, with Florian Lejeune and Emil Krafth joining Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett on the sidelines in recent days.
In attack, there has also been injuries while Joelinton struggles up front. Bringing in a player that can play up front, out wide and in the 10 role would be excellent business – almost another form of Miguel Almiron.
Carrasco is that man. Raiding Benitez’s new side for the Belgian would be stunning business, if The Toon can beat Palace.
