Reports have claimed that Liverpool want £18million for Xherdan Shaqiri ahead of the summer window as the Swiss star looks likely to leave Anfield in the coming months – and Jose Mourinho has got to consider bringing him to Tottenham.
Turkish outlet Fotomac have reported that Galatasaray are to open talks to sign the former Stoke City star when the Covid-19 epidemic finally ends. Shaqiri is likely to leave Liverpool this summer, having played just 10 times.
The 28-year-old was one of six players to be included in a list of players expected to leave Liverpool, compiled by the Mirror. But should Tottenham take advantage of Shaqiri’s future by luring him to north London – with Mourinho a big fan.
Indeed, during Mourinho’s spell as Manchester United manager, the Portuguese boss wanted to bring him to Old Trafford. The Sun claimed in the summer of 2018 that United and Mourinho were rivalling Liverpool for Shaqiri.
Two years on, and Shaqiri is seemingly surplus to requirements at Liverpool – especially with The Reds expected to sign players in the summer. Timo Werner, Kylian Mbappe and Jadon Sancho have all been strongly linked with Jurgen Klopp’s side.
So, surely Mourinho needs to raid Liverpool and bring Shaqiri to Tottenham. He would be a top-quality addition, given he has had a hand in 40 goals during 114 Premier League appearances – scoring 22 and creating 18.
Spurs do have options in the final third, but the likes of Erik Lamela, Gedson Fernandes and Ryan Sessegnon have struggled this season. The north London side need a player that can create something from nothing, and Shaqiri can certainly do that.
Not only is he capable of magic, but he can score from set-pieces and can offer versatility – playing in a front three or in midfield. At such a bargain price, it makes complete sense for Mourinho to reiginte interest in Shaqiri.
