TBR View: Milan Skriniar is still needed at Tottenham despite transfer business

One area where Tottenham Hotspur needed to improve this summer was at centre-back. Jan Vertonghen moved on, joining Benfica at the end of his contract with Spurs. It seems that Jose Mourinho has addressed the issue by converting Eric Dier into a centre-back full-time and signing youngster Joe Rodon.

However, Tottenham were also very keen on Inter Milan star Milan Skriniar this summer and they should definitely remain keen in January.

Tottenham’s frailty this season has been from individual defensive errors. Everyone, it seems, has been culpable at times.

Ben Davies was the latest to make a costly error, as Spurs lost 1-0 to Antwerp in the Europa League.

Toby Alderweireld, Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier are all prone to errors as well, with most Spurs fans likely happy if Davies does not play at centre-back again. With Rodon one for the future, the Slovakian needs to be a priority target in the January transfer window.

A defensive duo of Dier/Alderweireld/Sanchez alongside Skriniar would undoubtedly make Tottenham a more secure unit.

As reported by talkSPORT, Tottenham fell some way short of Inter’s £55 million valuation of Skriniar in the summer but with plenty of players clearly on the fringes at Spurs, raising funds to bring the Slovakian in should not be too difficult.

It should be a priority for Daniel Levy to give Mourinho the defender he clearly wants and needs.
