TBR View: Liverpool should abandon reported plans to sign Adama Traore

Liverpool will be linked with a lot of players ahead of the summer and one name that won’t go away is Adama Traore.

Spanish outlet Sport has recently claimed that Liverpool will be in a race with Manchester City and Leeds United this summer.

Wolves are not willing to let Traore leave for anything less than £40 million but Liverpool must think twice before targeting the speed demon.

The 25-year-old has been mediocre at best this season and it’s fair to say, the reigning champions should be going for better.

A report card for Traore during the course of the 2020/21 campaign doesn’t make great reading.

In 28 outings he has registered just two goal assists in Nuno Espirito Santo’s team. He scored in the FA Cup win over Crystal Palace and claimed an assist in a 3-3 draw with Brighton in the Premier League.

A quick look at his record during his time at Wolves doesn’t offer the best indication of his quality either.

In 118 appearances he has managed just eight goals and 16 assists, despite playing a lot of his football on the right-hand side of a front three.

Given the catastrophic defence of their maiden Premier League title, Liverpool must ensure they get their summer business spot on.

Signing Traore after his 2020/21 campaign would represent too much of a risk and Klopp must target better.

Transfer guru Michael Edwards doesn’t get a lot wrong and it looks to be a big summer for him once this season draws to a close.

The £43,000-a-week Traore is quick but he has proved himself to be a little bit akin to a speedboat minus the driver over the past 12 months.

Better players are out there and Liverpool should scrub Traore off of their shortlist of summer targets.
