TBR View: Lack of interest in Coutinho shows a shift in transfer policy for Arsenal

A lack of interest in Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho from Arsenal is hardly a surprise especially amid their recent change in transfer policy.

According to Fabrizio Romano, despite the Catalan giants having put Coutinho up for sale, Arsenal aren’t interested in a transfer.

Over the course of the recent transfer windows, it’s become apparent that the Gunners are keener on investing in younger, brighter talents as opposed to more experienced ones.

The odd experienced player does walk through the door, however, the core of the side is young.

Gabriel Magalhaes, Matteo Guendouzi, Lucas Torreira, Martin Odegaard and Kieran Tierney have all arrived in recent years as young, inexperienced players.

And it’s fair to say, the Brazil international hasn’t exactly lit up the Camp Nou since his mega-money move from Liverpool.

As a matter of fact, he’s struggled massively, and despite having won the treble with Bayern Munich last season, the Bavarians opted to let him return to Spain.

It was a damning indictment about how far the attacking midfielder has fallen from grace amidst what has been a drop off in quality.

No longer is he the swash-buckling midfielder, who hits in a rocket from range. He’s now the ace who drops in and out of the starting XI and suffers multiple injuries.

And besides, with Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka lighting up north London since their debuts, there proves no need for Coutinho.

All the former Internazionale player would stunt the development of two promising youngsters, who the quality to go right to the very top.

Links with Coutinho make no sense. The South American has fallen off hard from his time at Anfield, and due to better better options, would be a bench warmer in north London.
