Aston Villa are in desperate need of new players that can reignite their fight against relegation and push them towards Premier League safety – and Napoli winger Jose Callejon can do just that, at a bargain price.
Callejon, 32, remains a crucial member of Napoli’s squad and has made 24 appearances for the Serie A giants this weekend. Though he has only netted one goal, Callejon has proved to be a creative source, laying on eight assists.
Clocking up an enormous 328 appearances since joining Napoli in the summer of 2013, five-time Spain international Callejon has a stunning record of scoring 79 goals and creating 76 – having a hand in 155 strikes.
It comes as somewhat of a surprise, then, to hear that Villa are being linked with the former Real Madrid attacker. According to Arena Napoli, Villa are interested in signing Callejon – as his contract runs out in the summer.
The report claims that Napoli would be willing to do business at just £8.5million – a bargain figure given Callejon has only recently entered his thirties and has some stunning stats from his time at the Italian club, and indeed Real Madrid.
Villa could do with additions out wide. Anwar El Ghazi has impressed in glimpses, while Trezeguet has struggled to properly adapt to the rigours of the Premier League. Jota has hardly been used – and Villa need more options on the flanks.
For just £8.5million, Callejon would be an absolute bargain – one that could prove to be the difference between staying in the Premier League and returning to the Championship after just one season.
