Jordan Henderson’s career path has been an interesting one. Since moving from Sunderland in 2011, he has made over 250 appearances and been a relative mainstay in the Reds starting team. For some time, he was considered average, and unremarkable. But now he has become one of, if not the most important player for Jurgen Klopp’s’ side. Here is why.

The names that will come to most people’s minds when considering Liverpool’s most important player are obvious. Mohamed Salah, Virgil Van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander Arnold, the list goes on. Those sorts of players grab the headlines and rightfully so. However, the job Jordan Henderson has been doing is going seriously under the radar.

He has reached a completely new level this season in Liverpool’s march to a seemingly inevitable first Premier League title. The newly crowned England Men’s Player of the Year controls the Reds midfield and put in another sublime performance against Manchester United.

The 29-year-old won five out of six tackles, seven out of eight ground duels and had a passing accuracy of 75%. He also completed two dribbles and was unfortunate not to get on the scoresheet himself.

A superb David De Gea save was the only thing that prevented Henderson from a goal in Sunday’s win over United. The former Sunderland man is beginning to look like a Premier League-winning captain and leads his team superbly.

You could probably make a case for every Liverpool player being there most important. The Reds are on the course for a record-breaking season and are still in with a shout of becoming invincible. It really has been an incredible campaign for Klopp’s men.
