Rangers are sitting pretty at the top of the Scottish Premiership and it’s hard to find a negative right now. In the case of Ianis Hagi, however, he must make sure he raises his standards.

The Light Blues forked out a relatively sizeable £4 million transfer fee to sign the flamboyant forward from Genk in the summer.

During 2020/21 to date, however, he has flattered to deceive with boss Steven Gerrard leaving him out of certain games, favouring other options instead.

Jordan Jones and Brandon Barker have both featured in place of Hagi this season and it’s time for the Romanian to start producing the goods.

The 21-year-old has featured in 13 games this season, starting 10 of them. He has registered five assists, which is pretty impressive from 10 league games.

He has managed just one goal though and given his transfer fee and the fact he plays out wide or as a No.10 suggests he should be chipping in with more goals.

Last season, during his loan spell at Ibrox, Hagi caught the eye with his all-action style and his undoubted trickery.

He managed three goals and two assists in 12 outings for Rangers, scoring two crucial goals against Braga in the Europa League.

Hagi has made 12 caps for the Romania national team and he’s arguably been signed as one for the future anyway.

At £4 million though, Gerrard will be hoping for more and the fact he’s left him out on occasions of late, suggests as much.

Hagi is a game-changer on his day and it’s time for the youngster to start producing the goods on a more consistent basis.
