TBR View: Henri Lansbury should seek loan move away from Aston Villa

Aston Villa have won all three of their opening Premier League matches but for midfielder Henri Lansbury it hasn’t all been a bed of roses.

The central midfielder has fallen way down Dean Smith’s pecking order and it must have been heartbreaking for Lansbury to see Ross Barkley perform so well during the win over Liverpool.

The 29-year-old arrived from Nottingham Forest in 2017 and the £2.75 million signing was tipped to be a quality signing for the Championship and a player who could cut it in the top-flight.

Lansbury has struggled with injury problems during his time at Villa Park and that has stunted his progress. He has played 53 times for the Villans, with 35 coming in the way of starts.

Lansbury hasn’t even been on the bench for Villa in the Premier League this season and it’s time he asked the club to go out on loan.

A stumbling block for any potential suitor would probably be his salary. Lansbury earns £40,000-a-week at Villa Park and the question is whether the club would be willing to let him leave on loan and continue paying some of his wages.

Fresh start

With the Championship loan window open until the 16th October, Lansbury needs to get out and play some football in an attempt to revive his career.

He’s never really delivered on the promise that he shown following his arrival from Forest and a return to the Championship would help considerably.

Capable of playing in a number of midfield roles, Lansbury is a proven Championship performer and his passing range and ability to chip in with goals would make him a coup in the second tier.

Lansbury is far too good to be sat in the stands and although his days at Villa might be numbered, he’s more than capable of doing a job back in the Football League.
