TBR View: Harry Winks speculation could help Tottenham loanee Oliver Skipp

Oliver Skipp was sent to Norwich City in the summer on a season-long loan, but he’s certainly a name still being discussed by Tottenham fans and there are plenty that feel he’s got a big future at their club when he returns.

The 20-year-old is a highly-rated talent to come through the Spurs academy and he’s played 23 senior games for the North London club.

Ex-manager Mauricio Pochettino called him a “brilliant” talent back in December 2018 after a Premier League appearance against Burnley, as quoted by the club’s official website.

Despite his taste of first-team action at Spurs, the England Under-21 international dropped down to the Championship this season to play regularly and it’s turned out to be a masterstroke.

The defensive midfielder has been an ever-present in a Norwich side that are third in the league table chasing promotion and he’s become a key figure, dictating possession in the centre of the park and breaking up play.

On top of his success so far this season at Norwich, he may have just been given a lift due to reported news about Harry Winks.

According to the Telegraph, England international Winks may contemplate his Spurs future in the January transfer window if he can’t earn more minutes.

The 24-year-old central midfielder has played nine club games across all competitions so far this season, but has dropped down the pecking order under manager Jose Mourinho and hasn’t started in the league since September.

Winks is very much a ball-playing midfielder built in the same mould as Skipp, which is why it would make perfect sense for the latter to step into his shoes and surely it would cross the mind of Mourinho.

If Winks does go through the exit doors at Spurs, then they should look no further than towards their loanee Skipp who continues to get better and will be a much more complete player after his year at Carrow Road.
