TBR View: Former Gunners midfielder Josh Dasilva would be ideal for Arsenal right now

Arsenal’s elimination from the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night heaped even more misery on what has been a dreadful season for the club so far.

The Gunners were beaten 4-1 at home to Manchester City in the quarter-finals of the competition, but it’s the club’s form in the Premier League that has been most alarming.

Mikel Arteta’s side sit 15th in the league table with 14 points from 14 games so far, losing eight matches in the process.

Despite breezing through their Europa League group, it’s been far from good enough at the Emirates Stadium so far and it looks like there are serious problems in the midfield.

One main issue has been in the centre of the park, where the midfield has looked devoid of ideas and it’s not helped that summer signing Thomas Partey has mainly been on the sidelines through injury since he joined.

If Arteta was given the licence to rebuild the Arsenal team in January, then surely the midfield would be one of the focuses and ironically one man that would be a great signing for the club is a former player.

Arsenal have turned to a host of players from the academy to try bail them out of trouble so far this season, which is why it’s disappointing that dominant midfielder Josh Dasilva is still not on their books.

Dasilva is a powerhouse central midfielder that came through the Gunners academy system as a youngster, but he was released in June 2018 and quickly snapped up by Championship club Brentford.

The 22-year-old did play three senior games for Arsenal and he’s now looking like one that got away, as his performances suggest he possesses the quality now that would have given Arteta’s side a lift.

He is a left-footed central midfielder that put in a man of the match performance on Tuesday night to help knock Newcastle United out of the Carabao Cup, scoring in a 1-0 victory for Championship outfit Brentford.

Dasilva is an all-round central midfielder that has strength, skill, great movement and a goal threat to make him look a cut above in the second-tier.

It must be frustrating to know that someone with his potential would slot right into Arsenal fold given the lack of quality options in the central midfield position, so perhaps they should consider a move to try bring him back to North London.
