Arsenal have made headlines this week after leaving their long time assist king Mesut Ozil out of their Premier League squad.
There is no doubt a changing of the guard at The Emirates under the management of Mikel Arteta, but there is not a clear successor to Ozil in this Arsenal team.
The Gunners do occasionally lack that player in the final third who can do something special to break a game wide open.
Manchester City have Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester United have Bruno Fernandes whilst Liverpool have the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.
Ozil used to be that man for Arsenal but there is a player the club are reportedly interested in who could easily become the Ozil of the Arteta era.
Dominick Szoboszlai had Arsenal fans purring on Twitter last night after scoring another sensational goal for Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg. It takes his tally to four goals and six assists this season for his club, not including his recent excellent free-kick whilst playing for Hungary.
Last season, he supplied 18 assists and scored 12 goals and that has reportedly caught the eye of Arsenal.
As reported by Football.London this week, Arsenal are keen on the Hungarian who was linked with a North London move earlier this summer.
But the 19-year-old decided to remain in Austria for now, after the likes of RB Leipzig and AC Milan were also attached to a move this summer.
Arsenal would be bringing in a player with the assist ability of Ozil but with a far more superior strike rate in front of goal.
But, his biggest difference to Ozil, is his industriousness. Unlike the German, who would often saunter through games, Szoboszlai is a tireless worker who would suit Arteta’s pressing style in a way Ozil is clearly deemed insufficient for.
A previous report from Football.London suggested the teenager has a £22.5 million release clause in his current deal in Austria.
Arsenal are likely to be stretched for cash at this moment in time but as a long-term replacement for Ozil at The Emirates there are few better potential recruits than the Hungarian wizard.
