TBR View: Could Jack Grealish really fit into the Liverpool midfield?

The thought of Jack Grealish playing for Liverpool is one which some fans will no doubt have had this season.

The Aston Villa captain has been in fine form for the Villans this term. He’s adapted to the Premier League nicely and looks to be improving as the season goes on.

Indeed, former Liverpool midfielder, Danny Murphy, has thrown his comments into the hat today regarding Grealish.

Murphy believes that the Villa man could slot into Liverpool’s midfield if given the chance. Furthermore, he thinks Grealish could even replace the likes of James Milner in the Reds squad.

But with Liverpool flying and playing a certain system, would Grealish really slot in as Murphy suggests?

More difficult than it seems

Yes, Jack Grealish is a superb footballer and will probably get a big move to a bigger club at some point.

However, the notion that he could play in this current Liverpool team seems a bit far-fetched.

Unlike at Aston Villa, where is gifted a more or less free-role in behind the strikers, Grealish wouldn’t be afforded that luxury at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s team is built around a midfield three who work harder than anyone else out there. Jordan Henderson leads the charge, with the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner, and Gini Wijnaldum following suit.

It is, therefore, hard to see Grealish playing in one of those positions in the middle. While he is a talented footballer and can unlock the door in tight games, Klopp wouldn’t have a need for him to do that as things stand.

Grealish is unlikely to usurp the likes of Mane and Salah in wide positions. Roberto Firmino is also nailed on as the regular striker or number 10 in the team.

While Danny Murphy has a point in saying Grealish has the quality to succeed, for the time being at least, Liverpool are not the right fit for the Villa man.
