TBR View: Christian Pulisic would represent quality Liverpool signing

Liverpool are thought to be on alert to chase Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic this summer and his arrival could represent a shrewd piece of business for Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds have made a feeble attempt at defending their Premier League crown and injuries have decimated their squad during 2020/21.

One positive could be that the struggles this season have taught Klopp that some of his fringe players simply aren’t up to scratch.

With that in mind, the summer looks set to be a crucial period for Liverpool and the club’s hierarchy need to back Klopp with some solid signings.

Pulisic is a player Klopp knows well from his time at Dortmund and when he signed for Chelsea he raved about the American.

He told the Daily Mail: “He’s a good player. I have known him for a while and followed him closely but it’s a good deal for Dortmund because they can keep him until the end of the season.

“We will see another really skilled boy playing in England.”

Chelsea forked out £58 million for the forward and as a result, it’s unlikely they’ll allow him to leave on the cheap.

Pulisic has yet to start a Premier League game under new boss Thomas Tuchel and speculation over his future is mounting.

The new incumbent is likely to want his own players in the summer and in order to do that, some will have to leave Stamford Bridge.

Pulisic has played 59 times for the Blues, scoring 13 goals and registering 11 assists. Regular football has proved tricky though and once again he finds himself on the fringes.

Quality

Pulisic has the required quality to be a hit at Anfield and his proven Premier League experience would make him a solid acquisition.

The likes of Xherdan Shaqiri, Divock Origi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain haven’t really showcased their talents this season.

A lack of quality in reserve has been evident within Klopp’s squad over the past few months and that makes the summer look massive.

The beauty of signing Pulisic would be that he can operate in any of the forward positions.

At Chelsea, he has played on the right, left and as a No.10 and that would give Klopp some genuine options.

Other clubs are circling the £158,000-a-week and as a result, Liverpool should act quickly and secure the Chelsea star.
