Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard this month as Jose Mourinho’s side looks for cover following Harry Kane’s hamstring injury – but if such a move is to occur, Celtic need to request a midfielder in return.

According to 90Min, 21-year-old Edouard has emerged as a target for Spurs with England skipper Kane sidelined until March. The French striker has continued his excellent Celtic form this season, netting 13 goals in 17 Scottish Premiership matches.

The Daily Record claim Tottenham are not the only side interested in Edouard, with Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester City also considering a move for the ex-Paris Saint Germain forward. It is believed a fee of £30million would tempt Celtic.

But if Tottenham are to seriously move for Edouard, Neil Lennon must request that Victor Wanyama is included in a deal. The Celtic manager confirmed in a recent AGM that Wanyama is an option: “(We’re looking) for a player like Wanyama.”

Wanyama played for Celtic before moving to the Premier League with Southampton. The 28-year-old midfielder clocked up 91 appearances for the Scottish champions during his time north of the border, helping Celtic win two Scottish Premierships.

Scott Brown will turn 35 at the end of the season, and although the Hoops skipper shows no signs of slowing down, it remains to be seen how much energy he has left in the legs. Other than Brown, though, Celtic have little option in holding midfield.

Callum McGregor, Olivier Ntcham and Nir Bitton can all play in that position, but they are better used elsewhere. Kouassi Eboue, meanwhile, looks completelt surplus to requirements at Parkhead.

If Tottenham are to splash out a serious amount of cash on Edouard, surely it would make sense for Celtic to take a little less money and sign Wanyama in a player-plus-cash deal – solving a midfield issue and still bringing plenty of money for Edouard.
