Liverpool could risk losing midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum as his contract enters it’s final 18 months. The Dutchman will be able to leave the club for free in 2021 and the Reds are yet to tie him down to a new deal.
Jurgen Klopp may look to sell this summer to avoid him leaving on a free, but can the club afford to lose a player who has been so crucial in recent times?
Wijnaldum has featured in all but one of Liverpool’s Premier League games this season and is a crucial part of what has been a hugely successful formula this season. The Reds currently sit 13 points clear at the top of the league with a game in hand on those nearest them.
The 29-year-old will undoubtedly have a lot of suitors if his current club do make him available. He links defence and attack very well and has a knack of popping up with crucial goals at important moments.
TBR’s view: Liverpool must tie Wijnaldum down to a new contract
The Dutch midfielder is very important to the current Liverpool side. Losing him could have a big impact on a team that is dominating the Premier League.
Even if he is soon to be 30-years-old, tying him down to a new deal will certainly be beneficial to Jurgen Klopp’s men. If they let him go, it could come back to bite them in domestic or European competition. Those in charge at Anfield should do everything they can to keep Wijnaldum at the club.
