TBR View: Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah should seek summer departure

Mikel Arteta looks to be getting things right at Arsenal and looks to be in the job for the long-term. For Eddie Nketiah, that might be bad news and perhaps he should seek a departure.

The 21-year-old has been tipped as a future star at the Emirates Stadium but a number of factors are starting to count against him.

After recalling him from a loan spell with Leeds in January 2020, Arteta used Nketiah during the second half of 2019/20.

The Hale End graduate scored six goals in 17 appearances and it seemed as though the Gunners boss fancied him to play regular football.

This season has been nothing short of a disaster for Nketiah.

He has started just three games in the Premier League all season, despite scoring three goals in six Europa League appearances.

At 21, the youngster needs to be playing football and it was perhaps no surprise that West Ham were linked with a move during January (Daily Mail).

Arsenal opted not to sell their youngster during the window but if push comes to shove he should seek a move in the summer.

Since the links to West Ham, Nketiah has played just 10 minutes of first-team action in the Premier League and that simply won’t do.

Arteta may maintain that he doesn’t want to lose the £45,000-a-week star but regular firmly will be firmly in his sights.

The likes of Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka are first-team regulars and Nketiah will be feeling overtaken and left out.

Arsenal may maintain that they don’t want to lose Nketiah.

Ultimately, if that is the case, Arteta needs to start using him more frequently to avoid him looking elsewhere during the summer.
