TBR View: Arsenal should be all over £35m deal for exit-linked Ruben Neves

As Arsenal reflect on the 2020/21 season, they’ll view it as a massive disappointment which has ultimately seen them fail to qualify for European football.

The Gunners need a big rebuilding job in the summer to get themselves back to their former glory, and there are numerous positions on the pitch that need improving within the squad.

With Dani Ceballos returning to Real Madrid from his loan, Mikel Arteta’s squad is light in the centre of the park.

Arsenal should be on red alert now that new reports are linking Ruben Neves with an exit from Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers. According to the Athletic, it’s expected that the midfielder could exit Molineux for a fee of around £35million this summer.

There aren’t any potential suitors mentioned in the report for Neves, but Arsenal should be all over a possible deal if he is set to cost just £35million.

For £35million, Neves is someone with three years of top quality Premier League experience already under his belt, as well as being a 20-time capped Portugal international.

The 24-year-old is a central midfielder with his best years ahead of him and has already shown he’s more than capable of performing on the top level.

He’s a deep-lying playmaker that dictates possession with his range of passing, plus he can score from distance and is defensively disciplined in front of a defence.

It’s easy to picture him complimenting Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey extremely well on the pitch, so he’s someone that the Gunners hierarchy need to be alerted to immediately with a low reported price tag.

They need signings of his calibre, temperament and experience to try lift the levels in the squad.
